Maneki Neko
Before Hello Kitty, the Maneki Neko (in English "Beckoning Cat") saturated Japanese society with its popularity. It is a common traditional Japanese symbol of good luck in a form of a ceramic or porcelain cat figure antique, collectible, or souvenir. Merchants often put Mankei Neko in front of their shops to bring good fortune (as you can see we put some in the banner at the top of our store!) Japanese families give these cats figurines as gifts to give each other good luck.
